In California in 1951 and again in 1953 Household Finance would tow cars with out of state licenses, believing you owed some finance company somewhere, and did not have permission to leave the state from the finance companies. I had this happen twice, and since Household Finance were not the lean holder, they would check with the company that held your loan, by contacting what state DMV your car was registered in, and they refused to let you get personal items from your car. Total theft, and when I visited their office actually found a Thomas Road Atlas on their desk in the office with my name on the cover. I was furious, called the cops, and of course the cops would not do anything. So before I left the office I picked up about 7 typewriters and slammed them to the floor, totally destroying them. I ented to get even before I die. I do not forget. Never ever have anything to do with Household Finance in anyway.By the way, I had been doing TV servicing and had two TV chassis in the car that I'd picked up to be serviced in the shop, which we never got back. This branch was on Lafayette Place off of Wilshire, that is no longer there.
