I want to thank those who already squealed on this company, and consumer complaints for allowing them to do so. My fiance was considering sending them the fee and I was able to show him it was a scam by just doing a search on the internet. You guys saved us $50 and a BIG fight!
My fiance received an "Acceptance Certificate" from this company through the mail. This "certificate" states that "[he is] guaranteed approval for a consumer preferred platinum card with a credit line of $5,000. This is not a 'maybe'. We have already reserved a card in your name." Utter crap, as he has no credit history in the first place, and no real credit card company would make such an offer without seeing a customer's credit report.
The letter goes on, stating that you must "sign and mail this guaranteed acceptance certificate and include your one-time only $45.00 membership fee" to receive your card "with a $5,000 credit limit and a 12-month 05 APR, " and that "consumer preferred provides a 30-day guarantee of money back." "Standard" fee is $45, "rush" fee is $49.
This "certificate" contains no security features whatsoever - it would probably photocopy beautifully! The only fine print is "no application or credit check is neessary when cardholder signs this acceptance certificate. Please see terms and conditions included in your membership package" and "Your request cannot be processed without your fee. Make funds payable to Consumer Preferred."
