EMerge MasterCard
Will not close account, adds credit balances and charges periodic interest and other fees

Providian Visa closed my account even though I was not overdrawn and was making more than minimum payments on time. EMerge bought this account as a "bad debt" collection. I paid the entire account off with my tax refund.

I then received a statement with a credit balance. I sent the required address confirmation and request for refund in a timely manner. I also requested the account be closed and documentation from them stating it was closed per my request.

I received the refund, but no confirmation of the account being closed.

Two weeks later, I received another statement informing me of another credit balance. I have just sent the reconfirmation of my address (which I am becoming suspicious of at this time) and another request for a refund (minus any periodic interest or other fees, of course).

I have also informed them I will be contacting my state's Attorney General if I receive anything other than the refund offered (minus any periodic interest or other fees, of course), the confirmation of a $0.00 balance and documentation stating the account closed per my request.

I have tried calling this company many times. After pressing about 50 menu buttons, entering my account information and listening to my account information for about 10 minutes, I have been able to contact a live human being.

Unfortunately for them, I do not speak anything but English. Unfortunately for me, they were not born in an English speaking country. This has lead to many situations where I cannot verbally communicate with them.

They also do not have any type of web address to facilitate communication either. The only thing I could find regarding eMerge MasterCard on the internet was this site reporting their ripping off their "customers".

Soooo... If anyone out there is thinking about doing business with these people, think hard about finding an alternative.

Any company that refuses to close a paid in full account for the sole purpose of "refunding" a small portion of almost usury level interest with the intent of assessing "periodic interest and other fees" is not a company you want to do business with.
