TD Banknorth Predatory overdraft fees and delays in posting credit card charges

After they supposedly straightened out their botched computer upgrade, they roll out some new, nasty predatory practices.

They take three business days to post credit card charges. Commerce Bank, the bank they acquired, posted them immediately, or very rarely with a one day lag (for gas transactions).

TD Bank waist three days. If you share this account with someone far away, and you do not communicate what money you're both taking out, they've got you.

They will let any charge go through your account if you have a positive balance, even if that positive balance is $1. However, if you have a negative balance, they will stop the charge from going through. Knowing what I know about electronic bank transactions, I can tell you as a FACT that they are consciously choosing to do this, it is not a restriction of any system or technology.in the same amount of time, with the same transaction they use to check if your account is negative, they could also check if your balance is sufficient. But they choose not to.

After three days, they tally your transactions, and charge you $35 each for all transactions which send your account negative.

This is PREDATORY. We need to get a class action suit going. Enough people are angry, enough attorneys have their eye on this as it unfolds. Some fat executive got a promotion for thinking this up, and the bank is raking in the cash. We need to fight back, and demand that they post credits immediately like Commerce Bank did, so there is no chance of an overdraft. These systems are proprietary. Each one is different, and is designed by the bank which uses them. Make this bank change it's system!
