Several months ago, I checked into a motel across the street from the Fairbanks Capital office building, located in the Deerwood Office Park in South Jacksonville, FL.
I had been trying for years to get some straight answers from Fairbanks, regarding mysterious charges, shoddy treatment, and threats we had received from various employees over the years. You cannot find Fairbanks in the Jacksonville phone book! I called the number listed on my mortgage statement, and requested a face-to-face meeting with a real person, in order to get some real answers - not just vague responses. I had repeatedly asked for "research" on our account to try and find out what these charges are for.
The "customer service represetative" that I was finally able to talk to, told me that I would NOT be allowed into their building for any reason, because it was "SECURE" - if I had any questions regarding my account, I could FAX or write out those questions and mail them or FAX them. I would NOT be allowed to meet in person with anyone from their company. (!!!)
We have been charged a "corporate advance" in the amount of $10 each and every month for several years (we now "owe" almost $500 that no one can explain to us). We have been charged for "insurance" that we don't need, because that is paid in our first mortgage. We have been told that our homeowners insurance is "substandard" although it has a very high rating from Best!
We now send payments with a "return receipt request" because that is the only way to prove when our payments have been received.
We have been charged hundreds of dollars over the years in "late fees" -
We have been told, variously, that these charges are for "insurance" or for additional late fees. Payments have been put into "suspense accounts" and we have been charged for "returned check fees" when no checks were returned.
We finally paid every single extra charge Equicredit/Fairbanks has been illegally charging us, just to get rid of their badgering every month.
We still receive threatening phone calls every month, still have the extra $10 charged every month, received yet ANOTHER returned check fee on our latest statement and still have to deal with them.
There is NO record on our monthly statement of any of these "corporate advance charges", yet the nasty little trolls who work for them "remind" us every month that we "owe" over $1,000 EXTRA to Fairbanks - charges that NO ONE can explain.
We have also been threatened with foreclosure - for no good reson. The little trolls finally read their computer screens after calling us with their threats and realize that they DO make mistakes.
Our credit report shows a rotten record with these people!
I have already had one heart attack, and don't need another one - the treatment we have received could, very well, cause another one.
