I just found out today that Assett Acceptance, the "collector/attorney" for Castle Credit, is garnishing my wages! The first garnishment has come out of my paycheck in the amount of $53.99.
I called my personnel department to get a lead on who this garnishment was from and the trail led to Castle Credit.
First of all, this is for a "debt" that began back in January. A door-to-door salesperson came and demonstrated a vacuum and some industrial-type air filters. At the end of the demonstration, I was sold two of the industrial air-filter machines. The saleperson was very aggressive and pushy, and I felt like I had been forced into the sale so I could get this person to leave my home. A few days later, I realized that I had been forced into purchasing something that a) I did not want, and b) I could not afford.
I had tried several times during the following months to try to return the product to the company. Customer service flat out told me that I could not return the merchandise and that I was stuck in a contract to purchase this product that I didn't want!
I refused to make any type of payments on the product and told the company they could have their equipment back, but they would not receive a cent from me— they had already received a deposit on the date-of-sale that I knew I would never see again.
It has been five years and I have not received any correspondence regarding this matter. Now my wages are being garnished. All in all, they are garnishing my wages for a total amount of $6,003.74!
How do I get this issue resolved! I can't afford to have my wages garnished, especially for a product I never wanted and that the company would not let me return to them!
