OK, this is not much, but this is just a heads up. They offered a 'Settlement' offer on a debt I owed - in a letter, stating I had a due date to pay it. I called up and they gave the usual "Oh, you'll be saving x amount of dollars, so do this right away!" Bull, but I still want to get out of debt so I told Danielle (xt 4159) I would send a check. She offered check over phone, which would be a $3 charge. I said it's not necessary, I'll just mail it in. She told me she'd lower the settlement by the charge amount if I sent in a $3 check and set a date to pay the rest.
I did this, and after all was paid, they charged me another $3 straight from my bank account. So they got their way no matter what. I called and even spoke to the manager, and since it's just my word against hers, I'm SOL.
So just watch out when dealing with these people, make sure you get EVERYTHING in writing before you spend a penny - that $3 could easily have a couple of extra zeros for you.
Oh, and get this, Capitol One - my debtor, offered me a lower settlement a couple of weeks after I paid. So just go straight to the source, don't give these people any commissions - they don't deserve it.
