I had a Providian account for about two years and then my account was sold to Emerge Mastercard. I never received a notice about this.
I finally received a paper statement from Emerge after my account had become delinquent. I simply refused to pay on the account after this point. I tried contacting them time and time again. I either could not speak with someone, the computers were down, or given the run around.
When I finally got to speak with someone, he could barely speak English. I even tried writing letters, but got no response. Now they have charged off my account and referred it to a collection agency. From what I understand, this company is also owned by Emerge. I still can not get a statement from either of these companies—Emerge and the collection agency. They say by law they don't have to send me statements. I told them I hope they get their money.
I called the collection agency just yesterday and got cussed out by the representative I finally got to speak with after being transferred 5 times. I finally got to speak with a supervisor who also cussed me out for asking for a statement. She tells me that my account had been with their agency for several months, but I never got a statement. And she would try to get me a statement sent out and I should receive it in several months.
I am going to send them a letter with a propsal—$20 a month until the account is paid in full, however if they do not contact me within thirty days of the letter, I owe them nothing.
I'm just going to use their tactics on them. Maybe they will just sell the account to some other company. Then hopefully the debt can be resolved.
I do not recommend this company to anyone—not even my worse enemy. It is a big fraud and Emerge needs to be stopped.
