Since the year 2000 I have been paying for Account Protection Plus on a credit card. It wasn't even the same company it was Direct Merchants Bank that was bought out by Household Bank and then HSBC. Anyway, I was laid off last year and had been on unemployment. I still had enough money to pay by credit card bill, never been late or anything. When I ran out on my unemployment I decided I'd better use their Account Protection I'd been paying for nine years. When I called the number I talked with someone I think may have been in India. She informs me that I cannot use the APP because I have to initiate it within 180 days of being unemployed. I was reading the terms and agreement they had sent me and it said nothing of the sort. No mention of a 180 day period. I also checked their website and again there was nothing about a 180 day window of opportunity. I paid over $1000 for insurance that I can't use. It seems they change the rules as it suites them and always at the disadvantage of their customers.
This is all their website says:
"Can I request to activate the benefits now if my qualifying event occurred a long time ago?
As long as you were enrolled in AccountProtectionPlus at the time you became involuntarily unemployed, disabled or took an approved, unpaid leave of absence and you meet the criteria detailed in the Terms and Conditions, your request will be accepted. Upon approval, the benefit will be retroactive to the first date of your unemployment, disability or leave of absence. Because the leave of absence benefit was added on Dec. 1,2001, any leave of absence that occurred before that date is not eligible for benefits."
