Ditech/GMAC pulled my credit report when I contacted them to inquire about a refinance. That's normal, right? Well, after my credit watch service alerted me to the fact that the credit inquiry from GMAC has affected my history, I tried to get in touch with Ditech/GMAC again. I called the number (714 800 5871) that GMAC had posted with Experian and TransUnion.
It is a non-working number and when called, gives an 800 766-4622 as a customer service number, where there is no one available who can explain (".. Because I am only a customer service person and have no information about..."), either the non-working number or the posted (on Experian and TransUnion) address of: "GMAC Mortgage 3200 Park center Dr Ste 150". That's not a typo error, that's the entire address copied from the experian site!
I was given 800 753-4622 from customer service, and I did make contact with a GMAC refinance officer who told me not to worry about numerous credit inquiries being made while I'm shopping to refinance because in his 20 years of experience with mortgage refinancing he knows that only the first credit inquiry affects your credit score and other inquiries made within a 25 day period would have no further effect on your score. Experian told me that is UNTRUE! Each and every inquiry made effects your score individually.
So, after hours of trying to resolve the data above, and after reading some of the other stories on this site, I am left with this thought, Stay Away From Ditech/GMAC!
