My mother-in-law is 92-years old and in a nursing home after suffering a broken hip, heart attack and a stroke. She purchased a long term care policy from Conseco on August 27,1987 which promised to pay her a daily per diem for up to 730 days.
Despite forwarding all applicable claims information to Conseco, they have continued to create delay after delay, and excuse after excuse to not pay ANYTHING during her entire first year in the nursing home. It is obvious the company has designed a pathetic "so-called" customer service process that is one of the most painful, insensitive, and time-consuming processes a person can stand, in order to get their customers to give up on the claims they are entitled to receive.
In this case, the policyholder lived long enough to pay more in premium than Conseco is supposed to pay as a maximum benefit, so it was a good deal financially for Conseco. But in addition to keeping the 20 years of monthly policy premiums, Conseco is now attempting to make the collection of the insurance benefit so hard to receive, that the 92-year old disabled policyholder (residing in a nursing home) will just "give up" on the effort to collect her benefit. But I will fight for my mother-in-law since she is too old to fight this big insurance giant.
Do not trust Conseco to pay the benefits they describe to you when you are discussing the purchase of any insurance policy with them. If they will abuse a frail disabled senior citizen victim who paid more in the premium than the policy benefit, they will abuse anyone.
