I selected a transfer offer in December of 5.99%. I paid on time until March and missed the due date by one day (3/14/09, paid on 3/17/09). I was out of town looking for work. I called immediately (on 3/17/09) and asked if I would lose my transfer rate of 5.99%. If so, I would pay the balance off. The customer service (CS) person said the rate (5.99%) was still on file and good but to check back in 2 weeks. I called back in two weeks and the 5.99% was still on file. The CS person said becasue I was in good standing and only missed the due date by one day the 5.99% rate should be ok. I got the $39 late fee on the next statement and the rate was still 5.99%. I called again and the rate was still 5.99%. I believed the rate would not go up at that time. I got the next bill and the rate went to 27.24% with a $443 interest for the month. I called the CS people and talked to the supervisor, Neil, and explained my surprise. I wanted Barclay Bank of Delaware - US Airways to put the rate back to 5.99% and give me a week to pay off the balance. I felt it was not right to increase the rate without notice and the CS people I called should have know the rate was going up and told me so. All I got back was the policy line "you missed a payment and the contract says...". So here I am, ripped off for $443 and paying taxes to help support the banks because they mismanaged their business. And the same bank I am supporting with my taxes is ripping me off on the other end. And the really sad part is this is happening all the time all over this country I love. My advise. Do not accept any invitation for a US Airways CC or any transfer rate. All they want to do is rip you off at any end they can find open that someone else has not already been there. I hope Congressman Bill Young can do something about the banks ripping off folks.
