I also have been a victim of the MBNA scam. I had a fixed rate balance transfer of 7.9% which I have been paying on time. I noticed on my July statement that the interest rate was suddenly 19.98%.
When I called I was told that they did a review of our credit (which is excellent) and saw we had a lot of outstanding debt. Because of this they raised the rate (even though as I said I never missed a payment and always on time).
I spoke with many people in customer service, some of whom seemed to be pushing getting an MBNA debt consolidation loan (alittle sales tactic perhaps?) and got nowhere.
I too was told there was a little flyer sent out back in March/April that stated they could/would be changing the rates but not noted on the statement. Unfortunately I did not see that but still they send you 2 letters a week offering balance transfers in big print without the notice that "fixed Rate" is subject to change. What is a fixed rate supposed to mean anyway!!!
