Fifth Third Bank
Sucks

Fifth Third Bank is the biggest rip off in the banking industry. I made a deposit in the amount of $400 on a weekday a few weeks ago. I made it early enough so that it would post that day (before 2 PM). Later that day I needed some cash, so I made an ATM withdrawal. Later that night I had two transactions post to my account. Now, there was enough money in the account to cover these transactions not including the ATM withdrawal or deposit. The next day I checked my balance before I went to work. Afew days later I was charge $66 in overdraft fees. I called to question them about this and was told it was because there was a "hold" on the deposit I had made, and the ATM withdrawal made my available balance not enough to cover the two transactions. I found this to be a load of bull, and told them so. The deposit was made early enough in the day to post that night, and the next morning the entire deposit was shown as posted and available.

The more I thought about it the more angry I became. A couple of days later I received some correspondence from them regarding a savings account that I was in the process of opening. I sent it back telling them that I did not want the savings account and a few other rather impolite things, and yes, there were some vulgarities included telling them what I thought of their business practices ripping off a ten year customer for overdraft fees for an account that was never overdrawn. A few days went by and I heard nothing.

Tonight I logged onto their internet banking site to find that my account had a $0 balance (even though I had money in the account) I called them to find out what was going on and was informed that because I had closed my recent savings account and written them a letter using profanity, that my account had been closed today. I asked about my money in my account and was told they had mailed me a check in today's mail. I asked about my direct deposit of my paycheck that is to post tonight and they told me that it would be refused and sent back to my employer. Now, had they contacted me and told me that due to my letter they wished me to close my account, I would have. But, they did not. So, here I sit with $10 cash on me, and my money that was in my account somewhere in limbo in a check somewhere in the mail. And also, I have no idea what is going to happen with my direct deposit paycheck that was to be deposited tonight. If my letter offended them so badly that they wanted me to close my account I would have complied. But to just close my account and not give me opportunity to take MY money out, and not even notify me of it is bull. Had I not logged onto their website this afternoon, I wouldn't have even known that anything was going on. I cannot believe that they would just take it upon themselves to close my account and "mail me a check" for my money without even telling me about it, and to make arrangements to change my direct deposit arrangement. I will NEVER do another dime's worth of business with this bank and encourage everyone else to stop all dealings with these crooks as well. Oh, and the check that they are mailing me is $7 short of the available balance that I had in the account. On their website they had a $7 hold listed dubiously as "other". I can only imagine what nonsense they have cooked up for this charge.
