Cashnet500 threating calls, threatening felony charges, jail time

This company is horrible, rude, disgusting, and anything else you might want to call them!

I received a voicemail on 2/3/09 from someone whom I could not understand I believe she said her name was Jessica but I could barely make out what she was saying. Her voicemail was very strange and said something about something was going to happen to me if I did not call them back immediately.

I returned the phone call on 2/4/09 and the person who answered the phone just answered it as, "Hello what can I do for you?" I told him I had received a voicemail to contact this number and questioned the name of the company. He stated his name was Brad and he worked for a law firm but would not disclose the name of the alleged law firm to me. I provided him with the phone number I had received the call at and he asked if I had an attorney so he could fax papers to them. I asked why I would need an attorney and he told me I was going to be arrested tomorrow (2/5/09) by a sheriff who would be coming to my house or work and arrest me to take me to court.

When I tried to ask questions this "Brad" got upset and told me I received an internet loan in 3 and did not pay it back so they were pressing felony charges and bad check charges and I would be behind bars for 3-4 months. I questioned the amount I supposedly received and he informed me the amount I owe is $1,095 which includes late charges and penalties.

This guy had my entire social security number, full bank account number (luckily I closed the bank account a year ago), and also had one of my sister's names and the name of one of my friends. He indicated they would also be contacted and drug into court. I told him repeated times that I was out of the country for work so the sheriff would not be able to arrest me the next day. He kept telling me that it didn't matter where I was they have my social security number so they would be able to locate me and bring me back to the US.

When I started asking questions such as what Sheriff's department, why haven't I received any legal written document on this, etc. He became very upset and continually told me that my employer would be notified and I would be arrested, charged with a felony, and put behind bars for months. He told me there was no one else I could talk to and then got very upset and told me to never call the number again and hung up the phone.

Everything sounded very suspicious to me and luckily for me he did not attempt to collect any money for me. Which is what made me even more suspicious, if I owe money why would they not attempt to collect on it? Why would they just call me to tell me they were pressing charges against me? I would be more than willing to make arrangements if I owe the money but this guy was not willing to work with me at all or send me proof that I owe the money.

I contacted the sheriff's office in my county to verify the information and was advised they did not have any papers regarding anything like this for me. I also contacted an attorney to find out what they were thinking and the attorney was extremely helpful. She advised that they had violated several rights, for the $1095 it would be a small claims not a felony charge, and that everything I told her sound very suspicious and like a scam.

The attorney I talked to advised me that if I owed someone or they were taking me to court I would first have to be notified in writing of the court date and if I didn't appear for court they could issue a warrant for my arrest.

I have a feeling this is only the begginning for me and I am hoping there is something I can do. I have read a few reports of incidents very similar to mine and will begin sending letters and such when I return home.
