First of all consultation is indeed free, except if you want them to start any process for you they want you to pay them a fee upfront amounting in the amount of a mortgage payment. They don't tell you its a service fee, infact they tell you its what your mortgage company needs to start your modification process or to stop your foreclosure! Wrong!!! Its a scam to get your money!
I hired them to help with my foreclosure 5 months before my auction date. Now it's less than 30 days till my auction date and they haven't done anything to stop my foreclosure! All they acheived is to take my money and sit on paperwork for 4 months! Oh and after they take your money, they will ask for more before they send anything to your lender!
My advice is to go directly to your lender and ask for their Loss Mitigation Dept. Banks would rather work with you to do a loan modification than to foreclose on your home. I believed like others may that you couldn't go to your lender yourself that you needed an "expert" to help... That's HOGWASH!
All it takes is doing some research, utilize friends, co-workers, your local bank or credit union, or a local mortgage lender/broker... They are full of information even a good secretary for a mortgage lender/broker is full of wonderful info... That's how I found out about this "scam company" unfortuately at the last minute. Mortgage lender/brokers know which companies that are reputable and those who are not!
Don't believe the claims of 100% money back guarantee either! That's a lure to draw you into their "scam". If you are already tight on money like I was I'd advise to seek your local bank, mortgage lender/broker, someone you may know that knows about mortgages or even talk with your lender. If you are going to be paying anyone it might as well be your mortgage lender not some "scam" company out to take your money!
