Back in 2003 we had Ameriquest mortgage. For one whole year our mortgage papers sat on the coffee table in our living room. We were calling them every day trying to figure out why our terms had changed. We had an escrow account so that our insurance and taxes were paid out through the mortgage payment. They kept saying there was no escrow set up, but my paperwork showed that it was. They were trying to keep my escrow money. I even sent copies to them showing how the escrow was set up and how much we started with. They still would not recognize this, even though it was their paper work! Our insurance person calls us right around Christmas time in 2003 asking why did we drop our homeowners insurance. We were taken aback. What are you talking about? We didn't cancel anything! They had taken the money but didn't distribute the money for any taxes or insurance. We didn't even put up a Christmas tree because we were afraid the house would burn down and we had no coverage! So, finally, we were gonna re-finance just to get away from them. There was a pre-payment penalty if we did this before 2 years, it was worth it! It took forever to do this due to the fact of the escrow. We had to get a lawyer on this, which we made them pay for, so we could get away from them.in the end, we did get our money back and we didn't have to pay a pre-payment penalty. A few years after this happened, I was watching the news and there was Ameriquest. Lots of people totally pissed at what had been done to them. I was loving it! About a month later we received some papers from a lawyer for a class-action suit asking if we wanted in on it, heck yeah I want in! We ended up with a few hundred dollars, but it wasn't the money, it was the KARMA! Just a few days ago, we received another check from Ameriquest. We aren't really sure what it's for but hey, I'll take some more of their money. The mortgage business is a cut-throat situation! You really have to be on your toes when you are dealing with any lenders. Don't let them push you around. If you can't handle the payments, don't sign! Look for the long term payments, after your fixed rate changes. If this will be too much for you, don't go through with it, you could end up like so many right now who are in foreclosure. Don't let anyone take from you what they don't deserve!!! Good luck to all who are still with Ameriquest, and if you can get out from under them, do so! They will RIP YOU OFF!!!
