Citicorp Lifetime Warranty program betrays loyal cardmember... Warranty not worth the paper it was written on

I purchased an Amana refrigerator Sept. 16,1993 for my mother under what I thought was a legitimate warranty plan. The Citibank Lifetime Warranty program guaranteed repairs for 10 years, or with use of their credit card.

I specifically used the card because of Citibank's protection guarantees and submitted all the necessary paper work. On Sept. 22,1993 I received a letter from Citicorp acknowledging their pledge and congratulating me for registering the refrigerator under their program.

On April 9, I phoned Citibank to let them know the handle to the refrigerator had broken off and asked that they assist me in getting it repaired under their warranty plan. This is when I learned that Citibank's pledge wasn't worth the paper it was written on.

I was told they would not honor their pledge because I was not a current card member. Their letter congratulating me in 1993 only said that I would need to notify them no later than 45 days from the date of loss in order to file a claim. There was never any mention in the letter that I had to hold a Citibank Credit card.

As a Citibank cardholder I always had an excellent payment and credit history, but that does not seem to matter to Citibank.instead, on the same day I called them April 9, they faxed me a notice stating that in order to be eligible for their warranty plan I needed to be a card member in good standing at the time of loss. I had never seen this notice until they faxed it to me on April 9.

Citibank profited greatly from my many credit card purchases when I was a cardholder. All I want is for Citibank to honor their agreement.
