I was with the american express close to 10 years and during that time i have accumlated over 100,000 points. The main reason for cancellation of my card was due to a low credit score which started couple of years ago. I have no problem with cancellation of my card but however i do have a problem with them taking my rewards points without notifing me. I've been paying membership fee plus rewards points membership for close to 10 years they just can't do this overnight and refuse to give me what i have saved, the reason for i can't claim my points is because my account has been cancelled. I have talked to the manager at credit department for over an hour on a telephone but even she refused to help me on this matter. My account being cancelled in not voluntary it's involuntary and they are trying to make it look as if i cancelled the account. The manager also argued that they "have generated" a letter of cancellation on 10/27/08 but not sent out yet. The card was cancelled on 10/27/08, what good is a letter of cancellation if did'nt receive it before the cancellation. Finally i have argued that since they don't want to return my points i told them i won't pay for the remainding balance of $494. The points equals out more than enough if i were to use them as a cash, but the manager stated that is not possible because my account has been cancelled and that they will turn it over to the collection agency if i dont pay for the remainding balance. Please help if you can, i dont have to receive the points if they are willing to forget the balance or if they return the points i will pay the remainder of balance. I'm not asking for anything that is'nt mine i'm just asking for what is rightfully mine "please help"
