Countrywide is holding my insurance money hostage

Like many, we fell behind in payments. We were sent papers for a Home Saver program on Countrywide letterhead. Well, we filled it out and submitted it. Now Countrywide claims they know nothing of it and we can't find any information on it.

We then sustained damage to our home due to a storm. We filed a claim with our house insurance. Because of the amount of the loan the check was written to Countrywide and my husband.

Countrywide told us to sign the check and send it to them. We did not like that idea but we were told there was no other way.

From July to October, we were told that the contractor we hired to repair the roof did not have a valid w-9. We had to submit information numerous times. Finally they sent the check.

However, we still have over $3000 in insurance money sitting over at Countrywide. They told my husband that as long as we were behind in payments we could not have the money to replace personal losses.

That money is not Countrywide's. We pay the house insurance. We are in the process of getting our loan in check. We still have damage to the house and personal belongings that need to be replaced.

Am I crazy for thinking my being behind in the mortgage and insurance money are separate issues? Will I ever see the rest of this money? Allstate says there is nothing they can do.
