My mother called me about two weeks ago and told me that she had recently been getting calls from a company called Portfolio Recovery Associates. She said a woman was calling looking for me. My mother explained that I haven't lived at that address in 25 years. She wouldn't give the caller my current telephone or address.in fact, the caller insisted that she could only speak to me regarding this personal business matter. My mother said despite her explaining that I haven't lived at this address for along time, she continued to receive calls for several days.
I didn't want my parent to keeping getting calls from this company so I called the 877 number my mom got from the caller. I called it from my cell phone and asked to speak with the woman who had called my parents. I was told her line was busy. I explained the reason for my call to the man who originally answered the phone. He said that he couldn't look up my case unless I gave out the telephone number that the woman from PRA had been calling.
I was very reluctant to give them any telephone numbers so I told the guy that I only would speak with the woman that had been calling my folks. He politely said he couldn't help me and hung up.
Since then, I have missed several calls from PRA to my cell phone. I was sure they would capture whatever phone number I called them from. PRA hasn't left a message on my cell phone.
I have no idea why they are trying to get in touch with me. The only debt I ever had that went to collections was paid over 3 years ago. I haven't heard from anyone regarding that debt since then.in fact, since that debt showed up on my credit report I purchase a new home.
I also cannot figure out how they could have got my parents phone number since it has been over 25 years since I lived with them. Any applications I filled out in that time wouldn't have had that phone number on them.
