Josh Kohl shamelessly copied my business idea that I shared with him in confidence as a friend - because I wanted to help him.
In the latter part of Josh Kohl and myself both originated mortgages through the same company and both shared commercial office space together. I was at the time of this writing still the Austin Branch Manager of our mortgagge company Josh was a Loan Officer. He's now a Loan Officer at American Homefront Mortgage We also hung out some after work at an occasional happy hour, lunch, whatever. I think it's fair to say we were friends - at least at at some level.
During this time, I would share with Josh various ideas on how to get mortgage clients-because I really wanted to help him.
In late I confidently shared with Josh Kohl the details of a project of mine that I was working on. I created and marketed a mortgage lead generation website.
I told Josh that I had put up this website and how exactly I marketed the website. I SPECIFICALLY ASKED JOSH NOT TO COPY MY IDEA, but to apply the model of putting up websites AND MARKETING IT THE WAY I DO to get clients in OTHER ways. I specifically suggested, for example, that Josh put up a website about a specifc geographic region in Austin what would attract buyers looking to buy there.
Unfortunately, Josh did not follow my wishes.in mid he put up a mortgage lead generation website almost identical to mine and markets the website the exact same way I do (I won't state that publicly).
He did not put up a website about Terrytown Austin, how do get your credit report, free reports on how to raise your credit score, etc. Or the zillions of other ways that would attract mortgage clients. He insisted on copying my website idea.
There are probably a thousand mortgage brokers in Austin and only two have a Jumbo related website targeting borrowers in Austin, myself and Josh Kohl.
It saddens me to even think about this, but I feel obligated to let people know what kind of person Josh Kohl is.
