WAMU has triggered a NSF due to their practice of transferring 5 dollars into checking from my savings monthly, which they insist on doing (what?). More to the point is the fact that I never allowed them to LEND me any money to cover a transaction that did not have the funds available. The most I overdrew has been 9 dollars and some change. With a 33 dollar "fee", this is usury. The interest rate is far above the maximum legally allowed.
These people are making money from poor people that have low-running balances in their accounts. They also encourage debit card usage with some sort of "reward plan", which only fosters overdrafts and allows them to collect fees.
Washington Mutual needs to ask their customers if they wish to have them cover a transaction and charge the fee, rather than simply TAKE the money from their accounts.in addition, they have taken money from my savings account to transfer into checking to cover these "fees". This practice is a blatant attempt to collect money from people on the edge of financial solvency and penalizes the economically distressed. It is usury, point blank.
