I filled out an information form online for information on government grants. I was contacted by phone by a woman named Bridget. He asked me a few questions about my business plans, ethnic background, military service, which I informed her that I am a Disabled Veteran, and some minutes later told me that I qualified for a least $65,000 and perhaps more for a small business start-up government grant. I asked questions such as. "What percentage of applicants actually receive funding?" She responded, "90% others fail to complete the process."
She then said that it was the day before the cut-off deadline and that I would need to send a cashiers check in the amount of $489.00 to the company address referenced with this report. I was also informed that I would be able to apply for another grant the very next quarter.
I signed a contract that I downloaded online and mailed in my payment via FEDEX. I was told that I would receive a packet within 4 weeks from the date they confirmed recent of the tracking number that my payment was mailed. I contacted the company by phone on several occassions, sometimes I would reach a person, but most of the time there was no answer.
I have not spoken to anyone since sending my payment. Of course I never received any forms. I called the number several times and there is a voice prompt in another language and no message center.
I am upset with myself for falling for this scam and hope others think twice before doing so.
It is my plan to report this company to the appropriate authorities
