Did you know? Prepaid cards are becoming increasingly popular nowadays, especially for the people who travel, due to their security and convenience. You do not have worry about your cash being lost or stolen, very good, no?
Well, yes, but it turns out debit cards have problems of their own and these problems can be simply described as... COMPANIES.
RUSHCARD is one of the companies offering prepaid debit cards to us, simple travellers. Their website is great - easy to use, filled with promising words, picture of the Simmons smiling... But do not be decieved by the smile, read my story below and steer clear of this 'company' foverer.
Simply put - I'm a newborn traveller, currently visiting asia and russia. If you watch daily news you propably know that crime level is pretty high out there and it's just not safe to carry cash around, especially when you're all alone in an unknown coutry. So I chose RUSHCARD with their claim "MUCH SAFER THAN CASH". That was my mistake.
I signed up with them about 3 months ago, just when I was about to leave US. Card arrived very prompty, was easy to activate. And nothing actually warned me of any danger...
Until few days ago. Well actually it started showing signs of something being wrong about 1.5 months ago, when it got blocked due to being used overseas - but I called their support line, and they promptly resolved this. "What a good support" I thought. But I was wrong.
A few days ago my card got blocked again. I called their support line, an operator said that this case must be addressed by a manager and put me on hold for about 10-15 minutes (and I was calling international...). When manager finally decided to answer me he said the following: "You cannot use your card overseas for more than 45 days, we blocked it and cannot unblock. We've forwarded your case for a corporate review and you will get a response within a few days". I was shocked. I had a few bucks in cash, but most of my money were deposited on the card. "What are you saying???" I almost shouted. "It's not writted anywhere, I was never warned, what's going on?", but that manager failed to reply to these questions, he kept on saying about corporate review. I went through the Cardholder Agreement and their website immediately, but failed to find anything about 45 days.By the end of the call I was told to call next day for the decision.
And so today I called again. Imagine what I heard?"Sorry, we're not going to release your card and we will terminate your account". And they hang up. Now I have only a few bucks in cash, and will have to ask my relatives to send me a western union transfer... Imagine how I feel, this situation is simply crazy. Abroad, and without any money.
They also failed to respond on how to get the remaining funds back, I had about $2.500 remaining on the card and, by the way, now I can't even login to view my balance. Since I do not intend returning to the US for about a few months more I won't be able to receive a check, so the remaining funds have to be transferred to my bank account.
Today I'm too shocked to do anything, but tomorrow I will try calling them again so I could at least understand on how to get back my money.
Avoid this company. This seems good on the outsite but is rotten from inside. They do not care for their customer or his/her situation.
This really deserves a good lawsuit...
