I took a job with CIT after Dell Computer Corporation laid me off. I had written hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of business for the two companies. CIT is the Dell Preferred Account - or charge account. The CIT Corporation is 100 years old, and they are very set in their ways. Lately some people have been trying to make things better for people doing business with the company. Back in the 1980s our Government passed some laws called the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.) This says you cannot threaten, harass, intimidate, call after hours, and call people on the job when they are not allowed to receive calls there. I was handling mortgage accounts not very late, only a few days. I was instructed not to be too bad to this group. Well, the auto-dialer Davox doesnt care about laws, time zones, or how many times a day they get calls from this evil machine - Oh it is harassing them. My beautiful auto dialer calls this nice lady up on April 10 and she says this is a work phone and we keep calling - she is not able to receive calls there, which is a violation under the FDCPA if we kept calling. Maybe it was a cell phone for a self employed person, or it was labeled wrong; I removed the number thinking I have done some good; guess what - this poor, poor lady has another account with CIT and I am connected with her again an hour or so later AT THE SAME WORK NUMBER. I am a man of my word, and I apologized, did not attempt to collect on her 2nd Mortgage, and sought advice of questionable management - who said its just a system error. So I get fired for being - Polite, Honest, Respectful, & Courteous. Get a loan with CIT and contact the FTC for harassment; thats my advice.
