I applied for a mortgage with Quicken Loans. I talked to a guy that says his name is Brad Shiffman (notice initials... Bs). He convinced me to apply on the basis of their rate reduction program, even though their closing costs were higher. I gave them $750 application fee.
The next day, i asked to see the program in writing, and then he got defensive but eventually gave me a document that basically had no real legal substance - just a few sentences typed on QL letterhead. I told him tihs wasn't good enough and I was going with another lender. He then got progressively more blunt and offensive with his e-mail messages. I asked about refunding my fee (which their agreement says is refundable if I withdraw for any reason). He repeatedly ignored my request and eventually told me he couldn't address the issue.
This guy had the audacity to say my decision was shameful and that all I cared about was points, fees, and rates (DUH, it is a mortgage). He said I had no appreciation for what they do there. This guy is supposedly in their "President's CLub, " meaning this type of behavior is rewarded.
So, I complain to another guy, Thomas Mackey. He seemed more reasonable, still a fast talker, but he promised to refund the fee. Still no refund. We'll see if this happens eventually or not.
On advice of my attorney. Thus far I have contacted my credit card company and told them to block the charge. They said it in fifteen days they will investigate for credit card fraud if this is not refunded.
To top it off, after my repeated demands they send me to yet another person who tries to smooth things over, I told her it was not going to happen and I have heard nothing since. I guess we'll have to do things the hard way!
Bottom line, I think this company is a chop-shop run by a bunch of scumbags.
