Unwilling to work with a good customer injured and unable to work for 12 weeks

On February 28th, I was involved in a serious auto rollover accident that broke my back, and left me unable to work for approximately 12 weeks. The first thing I did after getting home after my 2 week hospital stay was to try to get my finances in order, as the accident was non-work related, so there would not be any income for those 12 weeks.

First, I contacted all of my banks who hold auto loans, personal loans, etc, to arrange deferrments—all of them were very helpful and showed concern, and I was able to get all of them to work with me on getting the monthly payments deferred for 2 months, which is a lifesaver!

Next, I called Popular Mortgage Servicing, Inc., who holds the loan on my home. I called several times, each time getting a different person, and a different runaround about why they can not help me, due to the fact I have not had this particular loan with them for over a year.in not so many words, they said they would rather have the home back on foreclosure than work with me, because "we have guidelines to follow". You would think, especially with the tough times in the housing financing world right now, they already have enough foreclosures to deal with, and in each case, losing a ton of money on each foreclosure. I repeatedly asked to speak to someone higher on the totem pole than the original representatives I spoke with, and repeatedly got told they could not help either, and to just deal with it. I did get them to transfer me to a supervisor 3 different times, and each time got a voice mail telling me to leave my name, number, and loan number for them to get back to me, and no calls were ever returned. To top all of this off, with the high interest rate they are charging me, their profit each month on a $900 home payment is almost $700!!! Why would you not want to work with a customer on their loan? This totally baffles me, anyone with common sense could see this is a win/win situation if they work with me.

This is not the only time they have screwed me on my loan. Last fall the loan was with them on a variable interest rate, and my payment had increased so much it was unbearable, so I refinanced through them to get a fixed rate. They repeatedly drug their feet (6 months!!!) and gave me the runaround, and when it came down to it, reported that I was late on a payment (which I had been told not to make, as the refinance would be complete before then). So not only has this company told me they are not willing to work with me during my injury to make some sort of agreeable payment arrangement, they have also wrecked my credit so I cannot refinance with some other company.

Moral of the story—AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!! They are nothing more than backstabbing, uncaring, unwilling and worthless. Never following through on their promises, and always giving you the runaround-unless they are calling looking for their one day late payment, it seems that's the only time they can stay on focus. I wish there was somewhere more visible I could show people my situation, to protect as many others as I could. The way they treat their customers, I sure hope they go belly up with a bunch of the other home loan companies that are all hitting hard times now. It would serve them right-as well as all the worthless representatives that work for them losing their jobs—I hope they have as uncaring and worthless mortgage finance companies as they themselves are-so they can feel the utter frustration that I am feeling right now. They should be listed at the top of the line on any ripoff report, as they just love to screw their hard working customers who have hit on some bad times due to an accident. I hope they burn in hell!!!
