I was a victim of Aurora Loan Services hazard insurance scam. Like other posters, I had insurance on my home and repeatedly sent in proof to Aurora. Yet, they created an escrow account, "purchased" hazard insurance (from a company they own) at an inflated rate, and tried to charge me for it. I got the same threatening letters and calls at work everyone else got. They posted ridiculous late payment amounts. I have a stack of foreclosure warning letters (all illegitimate).
It took a year, certified letters every week, complaint filings with every governmental and consumer rights group I could find, but I got my loan straightened out.
First, keep sending your mortgage payments, but only for the legitimate amount. Send the check along with a letter detailing (nicely) the history of your trouble. Make the letter really clear. Send it certified to:
Aurora Loan Services
Executive Communications
10350 Park Meadows Drive
4th Floor
Littleton, CO 80124
Do not include the payment coupon. If you do, my experience is that they just pass the check on and ignore your letter. Do, however, reference the loan number on the check.
I did finally get in tough with a person at Aurora who corrected the error on my loan. I have her name, direct phone #, fax #, e-mail address, etc. However, I am a little worried that she would be inundated if I publish it openly. Then, no one's problem will get their problem solved. If you need that contact info, let me know.
