Settlement Scam They send you "Settlement" letters. Shouldn't the first letter be a notificationa nd not a settlement request?

CBCS is trying to get a settlement from me for a bill that is more than 14 years old. I never heard from BellSouth about this before and now all of a sudden these people show up. The first letter should have been some kind of notification not a settlement request was my first thought.

Next was to go to Google and find out about their company. What I found was literally hundreds of people with a similar story. I read with interest about how they were hung up on and were berated by the company's employees and how they were asked for personal information to be sent to them. This includes home address and SS # and three bills from the year before the bill in question. Why would they need three bills for the year before???

Anyway, I call them and "Frank" answers and gives me a half baked sounding read about how information collected is for a debt and yada yada yada. He then became very upset when I told him he would be getting nothing from me. He continued to cut me off at every turn and then proceeded to hang up on me.

When I called back a machine picks up this time... I pressed zero a few times and low and behold to his suprise it is Frank again. He immediately puts me on hold and someone named "Shirley" gets on and starts to become rude when I tell her that I have already read about this scam of a company on the internet and that they can change their info to read "NO Sale"
She gets loud and says that I have to send all this info to them in writing.
She asks me my home addresss and number and what is my social. I tell her she is not getting that and that if I receive anymore mail from them a lawyer will contact them next.

She started to become a little belligerent about how this is a valid bill and I should pay it. I informed her that at 14 years old this bill if valid at any time would have been gone long ago because no one has contacted me til now. She started to say something about whay don't i just pay my bills at which time I told her I only pay legitimate bills and Good Day!!! I hung up.

These are scammers from the word go. Don't pay them and if they persist report them. If you continue to receieve mail start a fraud report with the reporting agencies.
They just figure that people will be scared and pay. Don"t!!
