CBCS attempting to collect on Original Creditor: Sprint Communications Company L.P

On January 26th I received a "SETTLEMENT OFFER" in the mail from a place called CBCS claiming my original creditor was Sprint Communications Company L.P. The letter stated "Your past due account has been placed with this office for payment". The current balance: $205.08 but they will accept a settlement offer of $102.04.

The problem? I have not had Sprint wireless service since late 2005 and I paid my balance and early termination fee prior to having my Sprint telephone number ported to my new wireless provider.

So, I called Sprint this morning (Sunday January 27th) and inquired about my account and stated that I received a settlement offer for the $102.04 from a company called CBCS that was trying to collect on Sprint's behalf.

Chad, the CS rep said that my account was PAID IN FULL when my service was terminated. I asked if this company was a bogus company trying to see if they can get money from people. He asked me for the contact number on the letter I received.

I gladly gave him it (888) 413-0093 and he attempted to look it up in Sprint's Debt Collector data base and he said that is NOT one of Sprint's debt collectors and to report CBCS to the Federal Communication Commissions for further investigation. You can do this at fcc. Gov.

I then contacted CBCS to inquire about the account. When I called from my phone it said enter the 10 digit phone number you are calling from, then asked for my last 4 of my social. They got all zeros for my phone number and social. I was forwarded to some lady.

I first asked them why they were saying that I owed money to Sprint when I didn't. Second, I told them that I had already contacted Sprint and that Sprint said that CBCS must be attempting mail fraud and that I had already reported CBCS to the FCC as instructed. CBCS hung up on me.

I then called Sprint back and spoke with a Joesph and he attempted to to contact CBCS, and when he called he was prompted to enter the 10 digit telephone number and then the ACCOUNT number that you are calling about. He typed the one from the letter and it said, I'm sorry the account cannot be found.

So I called back again and it again asked for my number and last 4 of my social. No answer. I tried to call back about an hour later from my sister's lan line and it would say that it was transferring my call and would then disconnect.
