Wednesday night I received a letter from CBCS. It stated that I owed 354.54 to them. But if I was willing to pay within the next 30 days, I would only have to pay 170.00. It said that the original debt came from Sprint Communications.
I contacted them which took at least 3 phone calls before someone answered. I spoke to a woman that informed me this debt was from sprint and the account was opened on November 14th, 1997 and had been paid up until December 12th 1997. I asked what the bill was in regards to and it said "long distance charges".
I've never had sprint communications and stated that to the rep. She said there was no way to validate that it was actuallly my debt because they had purchased this collection account from Resergent Capital Services. I asked for their contact information and was told that they don't have any info on my account anymore because they sold it.
The rep also stated that they have been sending me notices to my old address for awhile. Which is not true considering my old address is my parents house. She told me I really had no other option but to pay the 170.00 within 30 days or I will have to pay the entire amount.
I decided to contact sprint who in turn told me they have no record of me ever having an account with them.
When I called CBCS back and asked for the person I spoke to earlier, a guy told me that she doesn't accept phone calls? Even though i had just called her. I'm worried, they obviously have all my personal information.
