I received a letter from American Consolidebt, Inc. Trying to collect on an account I never heard of. The letter does not include the required "mini-miranda" warning required under the Fair Debt Collection Act and refers to a limited time offer to stop all proceedings. (There are no proceedings! I checked with the clerks of the local district and superior courts.) I cannot find out any information about this company. Although they have Inc. On the end of their name, the New York Secretary of State's office has no record of them.
An internet search will only turnup a web site for making payments. I would call them but talking to debt collectors is always a waste of time and I am not in the practice of settling non-existent debts. Does anyone out there know anything else about this supposed company?
