We checked our account this morning, it's kind of a routine for us. We found we were overdrawn by nearly $300.00. I immediately went to our bank site to see what happened. There was an ACH Debit for $299.00 from a company called North American Intellifon. We have never heard of this company, nor had dealings with it. I searched the internet and found a website that seems to be connected to this name.
As a result of the theft, we had a domino affect of legitimate checks bouncing. So, we went straight to the bank after the main office told us it would take up to 8 days to receive an affidavit to dispute the fraud. When I got to the bank, I followed the advice I found on usacomplaints.com. I showed the supervisor at the bank that I knew my rights. Displayed papers in her view showing my states bank commission, the state attorney generals number and the local numbers for ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX News. Plus Five on your side.
As a result, the affidavit was faxed to my local bank within 20 minutes. We signed it disputing this debit. Further more the bank gave me the phone number for the company who stole my money (888-440-2971) the number has a, what seems to be a French message and then English stating the person was unavailable.
I have spent hours reporting this to the BBB, Attorney General, Federal Trade Commision, Fraud Hotline, Inspector General and tried to locate authorities in Quebec (without success). Bottom line, I have to hope the bank returns our monies. From now on, I will deal with cash and Money Orders. I feel checks, banks and the computer are playgrounds for conspiracy and theivery.
