I have worked with collection agencies in the past and although they may not be exactly friendly or helpful, I have never run into one quite like this.
My husband is a long haul driver and my son and I get the opportunity to go with him from time to time. I was gone only a week and when I returned I had over 25 calls from GC Services. I contacted them immediately.
The debt in question was legit and I explained to Mr. Clark my financial situation and how it had come to be bad debt. He proceeded to threaten me with legal action if the debt was not paid off in full by that Friday. I tried to explain that I understood I did owe this money and was willing to pay it, but could not do so in full.
After a long phone conversation, many threats, and attempts to frighten me into paying it in full... I was told to explore my options and call back that night.
When I called back that night to explain that my life was still the same, his story had changed. Every date, time, and line he had told me had changed from the last call. He had forgotten all his previous lies and threats.
With all that being said... Yes it was a legit debt, yes the guy was an jerk, and no I am not avoiding my financial obligations.
I read lots of complaints and rebuttles about this company and I think I speak for many people when I say this:
Many of us are not intentionally ignoring debts that we owe. Life happens and we do what we can to make it. We have to look at our priorities. We pay what we have to pay in order to survive FIRST. The rest gets paid when we can. Threats are not needed. If we pay one person in full then we end up in trouble with several others. Companies make mistakes also and regular people as well. Know your debt and double check when someone is calling for money. Keep all paperwork and proof of payments. I know that I am more willing to work with a company that is not going to try and scare me into making payments. Why companies think that threatening me with legal action is going to do any good, I don't know. If I can't pay the bill as it is what makes them think that adding fees to that is going to make it any easier to pay. Most of us just need more time to pay the initial bill up to date.
So in closing... This company is rude, harrassing, and not very helpful. If you check out their website they even say that they don't treat debts with the TLC that many other debt collection companies do, because it wastes time.in not so many words they treat you like crap and try to scare you so that the debt gets paid and I'm sure that works on many people and that's why this company gets things paid up like no other company.
