These bottom feeding low-lives have contacted me about a verizon debt from while I was in college. I do not believe that I owe this debt. AFNI has listed this on my credit report and it looks like a recent deliquency. It has nothing on my report stating that it was from 2001. I actually was making an offer on the purchase of my first home when I found out about this debt. It caused my credit score to drop into a higher rate bracket. It actually soured me on buying a home and I am trying to get this taken care of before I apply for a loan. I have otherwise excellent credit. I disputed the debt by mail and got a response saying that they are "unable to confirm at this time". They want me to verify that I do not owe it. I am not a very good records keeper and do not have any of my financial statments from 2001. I don't know what else to do. I am hoping that in I can get it removed from my credit report because of its age. The bill is only for $103, but it's causing me a lot more than that in stress and interest rates. With a housing market suffering the way it is, companies like AFNI should not be damaging people's credit. They have effectively come out of nowhere and damaged my credit with no proof that I owe the bill. How is this legal? We NEED to get our government involved. I intend on seeking the advise of a consumer lawyer. I'd much rather pay a lawyer than these scam artists. They need to be stopped.
