Watch your account balances very carefully ripoff

If you bank with Wachovia, watch you bank balances very carefully. Approximately a month ago my partner and I made an ATM deposit of $950.00. The deposit consisted of one check drawn off the United States Treasury. Approximately 4 day later I verified online that the check had been credited but noticed an entry of 49.50 notated as DRAdjust. My partner had recently been to the doctor so I assumed it was the payment for that medical visit.

I assumed incorrectly. Later that day I received a letter from the bank advising that we had made a ATM deposit of 1300.00 and that we had totaled it incorrectly by $49.50 so they had debited our account in that amount. Also attached to this letter was a copy of another customers check. The check displayed this Bank of Americas customers name, address, routing and account number.

I was totally shocked because we had not made a deposit in that amount and that they would send out this type of banking information to a customer that totally had nothing to do with the transaction.

I logged into online banking and verified that the $950.00 had been corrected correctly as well as both of our direct deposits. I contacted the banks 800 number for an explanation as to why the funds had been taken. I have to say that this was the poorest customer service experience I have ever had.

I was advised that the department in charge of these issues was not in and they could not give me any information into the situation. What? Doesnt Wachovia tout its self as #1 in customer service and 24 hour customer service.

After going back and forth with customer service and the supervisor it was obvious that we would not get a valid explanation. On Monday morning my partner took the proof of the two direct deposits and the ATM deposit to the bank along with the letter and the check that we received. The assistant manager reviewed the documents and said that this was an obvious mistake that shouldnt have happened. She said that it appeared that when the teller was balancing the ATM deposit and was off by $49.50 so she went down the list and just picked a customer who had made an ATM deposit to debit the money from.

Okay, you have to be kidding that a teller would just randomly yank funds from a customer! She then advised that the money would be credited bank to the account either after 2pm or midnight. Okay, were totally not happy that this has happened by putting the money bank into the account is a start on correcting it. The assistant manager then attempted to give the letter and the check copy back to my partner. Are we the only ones that see how fundamentally wrong it is to have the bank give us a copy of someone elses banking information? So my partner then advised her that all of the identity theft that she did not want another customers banking information.

The next morning I logged into online banking to verify that the funds had been returned to the account. Only to find that the money had not been returned. I was livid. This bank has fraudulently taken money out of our account. Has acknowledged that this is an error and did not refund our money.

After at least 25 unreturned calls to the assistant manager. I refused to hang up until she came to the line to speak with me. She then advised me that she had just been informed that she had submitted the request to return our money to the wrong department and the she didnt understand what we were so upset about. She had told my partner that it would be 24-48 hours before the money is returned. She told my partner that the latest we would have our money back was after midnight, not 24-48 hours. I told her that I could not believe that they had stolen money out of my account and are giving me an attitude because Im demanding my money bank. She advised me that it wasnt stealing, but a simply mistake that resulted in money being taken from our account. Okay banking customers.

If you mistakenly write a check for more money that is available in your account, what happens? I can tell you. They charge you $39.00 or $10.00 if you have overdraft protection. Okay, the bank has Mistakenly taken money out of my account and was did we get? I hassle it trying to get OUR MONEY back and a condescending attitude from the bank manager.

After pitching a total fit over this issue and threatening to get legal, the money deposited the funds back into the account within the hour. What happened to 24-48 hour? I can tell you. The assistant manager is a point blank liar who submitted the correction to the wrong department thus making an already bad situation worse. Its ridiculous that a customer has to get to the point of being postal mad to get the banks mistake corrected.

That day we established accounts with another bank and have closed the Wachovia account effective today. If you guys are still with them, watch you money. I think they are point blank stealing from their customers and will never bank with them. I hope the 49.50 was worth them loosing or checking, saving and CD accounts!
