Wells Fargo Auto Finance - Wells Fargo Auto - Wells Fargo Acceptance Disorganized, Fraudulent Billing Practices, Incompetent Morons ripoff

I've had an auto loan with Wells Fargo for about three years now (two to go). We've always been great about payments, sometimes a week late but always stayed in communication with them and they were generally very nice.

Last fall we moved and some things got confused, as things sometimes do. On December 6th I owed WF my payment for December and November, a total of $500 (my payment is $248/month). I took the call from the collector dude, got the Western Union information, and made my payment that day. About two weeks later some guy with a tow truck shows up outside my door wanting to collect my car. Luckily for me, a) it was in the garage and b) he was very nice and was happy to look at my Western Union receipt. He drove away without my car and I got on the phone with WF.

WF claimed they couldn't find my payment, even though I gave them the tracking # and all of the other information from the Western Union receipt. We eventually figured out that they had somehow credited it to the wrong account, so WF agreed to "investigate" the situation to ratify things. For the next week, I rec'd 5-6 phone calls a day. At first I was very nice, explaining to them that my account was being investigated for a missing payment. They always apologized and hung up. After the third day I started to get angry and demanded to speak to a supervisor.

The supervisor I spoke with had no clue what I was talking about and told me there was no record of any "investigation" on my account. I proceeded to give her all of the Western Union information - again - and she made the same promises regarding and "investigation." This time I made sure to call THEM 2-3 times daily to figure out what was happening. That got their attention, and the situation was worked out - kind of.

I was advised that the $500 payment had been applied to my account, however, they showed that I still owed $140. I asked them what for, and explained that I would flatly refuse to pay any late fees that had popped up after December 6th - as the error was theirs. The caller told me that they would conduct an "audit" on my account to determine the source of the fees. That was in January (after I made my payment on time). I continued to receive between 3 and 6 calls a day for the month of January.

I haven't made a payment since January, and I am now three months behind. I'm sure they would like to repo my car. Good luck - I'm currently out of the country on business and my car is in a storage facility in the vast jungle of the L.A. Area. I told them that I would not be making any payments until they could explain the extra fees to me. One woman told me that she did not know what an "audit" was or how they could do one on my account. I don't really care any more, I'd just like to continue to spite them as much as humanly possible. But when I get back to the US I'm going to have to start sending certified letters, and I suppose make a few payments for what I do actually owe.
