Modern Financial Corp was advertised in Creative Loafing (a local community paper in Atlanta, GA) as a company that supplies secured and unsecured loans. I needed a loan to pay off major bills, and therefore contacted them at 1-888-239-1464 which is also their fax# after pressing option#3. I spoke with a representative by the name of Tabitha who asked for some preliminary information and proof of income after asking how much money I needed for the loan. I was informed that I would have to pay an insurance premium on the loan to the tune of $1,500 after I was approved and I would be contacted after 24-48hours. Unfortunately, their phone system requires you to anounce your name before anyone picks up (a feature that would later cause me great distress).
2 days later I was called by Tabitha and approved for the loan of $30k. I was to money gram the $1,500 to a person in Canada in order to secure the loan which would be wired to my checking account later that day. Needless to say, I did not receive the money, and I called back the next day repeatedly. I even had to remain silent when prompted for my name in order to trick someone into answering. Tabitha picked up and said the money wasn't enough and I need to send another $2,000 via money gram. Completely outraged I asked for a supervisor and she said a Mark White will be calling me (he didn't). I called back and asked to be transferred to him in which case he said Tabitha didn't know what she was doing, and I need to send $4,500 to secure the loan. I said I didn't have that much, he then inquired how much I could send, and I informed him that Tabitha told me it would be an additional $2,000 which he agreed on. I didn't send the moneygram for the additional $2,000 for another week. Same scenario as before, no money, called Tabitha, and she said $5,000 was required. After I completely erupted she said that I was put in for a refund of the money and I will get it back in 30 days.
Unfortunately 30 days have passed, and Modern Financial Corp's # is no longer active. I tried to send her an e-mail at [email protected], with no luck of course. I was counting on that loan to put me back on track financially, and now because of these people I have to worry about how I can fill up on gas the next time, because I'm tapped out completely. Additionally, I won't be having a Christmas because of this. I have to hide this fact from everyone I care about, and I still haven't found an excuse to participate in Christmas this year. I'm ashamed at my gullibiltiy and yes, stupidity, but my situation was extremely difficult and this would've made a world of differance to me. I am so angry at myself and at these people that it occupies my mind throughout the day. Any advice or assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated naturally. Many thanks.
