I recieved a letter stating that if i don't pay for a check that was supposed to have been written seven years ago that they were going to recommend criminal prosecution. I don't recognize the company they say they check was written to.
When I asked them who the check was written to they gave me the run around I never did get an answer. The person I was talking to said that the bank had collected insurance money on the check and this made it a fraud issue.
When I asked why I had NEVER been contacted in the last seven years on this matter I was told that nobody could find me. He did not have a response on if they could'nt find me how did they. I was told if I don't pay this they will issue a warrent for my arrest, and that court and attorney fees could cost me over $800.00.
Is this company for real? How can they come after me seven years later and not provide proof. I was told I had to contact the bank the check was written on for a copy of the check. Don't they have to provide that?
I was also told that this company was not a collection agency. I am a single parent just making ends meet and don't know how to handle this. They are demanding $163.56, for a check they said I wrote for $13.56.
I honestly have no idea if this check was ever written or not, again I don't recognize the name of the company they say the check was written to.
Does any one have any advise or know about this company. Thanks so much.
