In May of I made a final payment of $60 to cross country bank. I had a settlement with them that they would waive the balance of $150 upon receiving the $60 (they took the $60 directly out of my checking account). After this, I never rec'd a letter or a $0 balance bill, but assumed everything was taken care of because I was never again contacted by Cross Country bank.
In October of I was contacted by their collection department. They stated that I still owed the $150 balance and expected me to pay. On November 5th, I spoke with a gentleman who agreed that the balance was settled and it showed up as a computer error. He agreed to have it corrected if I could fax him proof of the $60 deduction from my checking account, which I did. I never again heard from them, assuming, once more, that the matter was now (finally!) settled and the balance corrected.
On June 6, I received a call from a legal company stating Cross County now has a claim against me for the $150 balance that was satisfied/settled in May. Again, this was agreed to by a Cross Country representative in November and I was told it would be corrected. My credit is now ruined and I have a claim against me for money I've been told more than twice I don't owe!
