Countrywide is THE worst!
We were first time home buyers and wanted to live the "American Dream" and own a home! Ha! Countrywide was HORRIBLE from day ONE! The first year we were fine (after many days of torture prior to the closing) and then we started our second year with them and our payment MORE than DOUBLED because they werent charging us enough each month the year previous, so our escrow account was negative (bigtime). Thanks to THEIR title company!
Anyway, being first time home buyers we had no idea that our fixed rate mortgage could increase and increase as much as it did.in the meantime, we purchased 2 cars, both with payments. So, now we couldnt afford our "new" mortgage payment and got behind EVERY month and they added fees and more fees and we could never get out of the hole! They refused to help!
We finally refinanced with Ameriquest (AMC), paid well over $10,000 in closing cost to get away from Countrywide to be sold right back to Countrywide 2 WEEKS later! This is NOT against the law! Can you believe? BE CAREFUL! And we were NOT told that this could happen to us!
So, here we are with Countrywide AGAIN! Now it's worse!
In December they tried to foreclose on my house (Merry Christmas)! They "claim" that our first payment with Ameriquest was never rec'd and we were behind 3 months in payments. We had to pay almost $5,000 to save our home PLUS lawyer fees which we were told we would have refunded to us!!! Our payment WAS rec'd by Ameriquest, I have documentation to prove it! To date, we have never rec'd a refund of any kind for those fees. ($1700.00)
We decided to bite the bullet and refinance AGAIN and get away from Countrywide. This time it cost us $18,000 but worth EVERY freakin penny! We are now with a private lender that does NOT sell mortgages. We will NEVER deal with Countrywide again. I would rather RENT or even be homeless before I deal with them again!
NOW, we refinanced over 1 month ago and by law Countrywide had to send any and all overpayments in escrow within 21 days BY LAW to us. I called yesterday and a check was still NOT mailed. They owe us $653.33 and I WANT MY MONEY! I called and reported Countrywide to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE report Countrywide to them. If everyone reports them, eventually something will be done with them! 1-800-613-6743! Don't let them get away with this crap!
