I received a request for payment for a bill for "Southwestern Bell dba AT&T residential" and when I called the number on the phone this morning and requested a "copy" of the so-called bill, the lady refused to give me a copy unless I provided my last four digits of my Social Security number. I informed her that I do not give that out over the phone... She said, "We don't want the number only the last four digits." I told her that those numbers are often used for identification and all I wanted was some sort of "proof" of such a debt that I do not just "pay" something without proof. I also informed her that if I in fact owed over $80 to the phone company, I couldn't be calling her on my phone as they would have cut it off long ago.
