Hubby and I decided to refinance our home a short while ago. When we did this, we paid off all our credit cards, car payments, etc.
At that time we had two credit cards with Chase on the back of them. Hubby called them to get the payoff amounts and told them the day it would be paid and asked how much that would be. Was told X amount of dollars and hung up. He paid with his bill pay through our bank, and figured that would be the end of it. Since we've done this before. He always adds a few dollars to that final amount "just in case" and off to other payments he goes.
A few weeks later he gets a refund check for. 51 cents from one of the Chase card payoffs. Cracked up the little refund, but never put any other thought to it.
Then, a few more weeks go by and low and behold we get a bill from the same card who just refunded the. 51 cents for $62. Xx. What's this for? He calls their customer service and asks them for an explanation. The guy put him on hold several times while he supposedly is asking his supervisor, then comes back with "oh, that's the interest for that prev. Month". Hubby explained that he had called for a payoff amount, told them by what day, and even paid that early. Then explained the refund check. The guy told him that they only gave the payoff amount for that day, and not a future date.
Hubby started to get a little upset and went rounds with the guy about payoff dates and amounts to be paid and how it messed up our finances to have an additional amount to pay again and on and on. The guy didn't care, didn't try to calm hubby down, and pretty much told hubby to pay it and get over it!
Hubby hates to be misled buy these companies, and after paying several "Huge Late Fee's" for payments that were posted with Chase on the exact day they were due, he has vowed to never do business with Chase or any other Card ever again! They scam money off anyone they can because their so big, no-one has any recourse, and if only one person gets any help from this letter. It will have been worth the while to write it.
Oh by the way, the second chase card that we paid of with a supposed payoff amount sent us another bill for 40 something dollars, again, more interest.
Credit Card Users Beware.
C.C. Companies will prey on the people who don't have such great credit because they know that in time, you will fail to make a payment on time, or something will happen to mess things up for you.
They don't care. They will jack your rates and now since the interest cap has been lifted. They can screw you and you family for life.
Something needs to be done to stop the madness!
