Allied Interstate
Harrassment and Threats, ripoff

Interesting day. I am at work, and get a call from someone identifying themself as being from a large bank (name left out to protect the innnocent).

Come to find out, it was actually a person from Allied Interstate. I ask for a mailing address and got one, then politely said "Thank you", and hung up.

30 seconds later I get a call from the same person, this time he is irrate and starts a verbal barrage to degrade my monhood. I hnag up.

30 seconds later, he calls again and immediately starts where he left off. I hang up.

5 minutes pass, and I get a call from a woman who identifies herself as being from a large bank. I asked, explicitedly, who her emplyer was, and she stated the large bank's name again.

Ok, she tells me about a loan my prior company (C-Corp) had which was outstanding (from 3 years ago). The company had closed and liquidated all its assets and paid off all the debt it could arrange to. I, as CEO, had signed for this line of credit she was talking about.

I ask her for a mailing address. She refuses, yelling, "You are not going to send us a cease and desist order!". I asked, "Are you refusing to give me your mailing address?" She claims, "Yes" and goes off on a tirade which sounded a lot like the gentleman from before. I hang up.

Another 5 minutes goes by, and I get a call, this time the person identified who he was with (Allied Interstate) and expressed he had heard I was having problems with some a couple of his people.

I should have hung up, but didn't. I tell him, do not call me at work. He asks, "Where can I reach you?" I ask for a mailing address, he complies. Then he asks, "How much are you sending?". I told him I wanted this to be handled via postal mail.

He says, "No. We either take care of this now, or I will start the process for garnishing your wages." (I am in Texas). Ok, he caught me flat-footed on that one.

He claims the laws in Texas allow him to do this without my permission. So I should give him a contact number or let him talk to my boss and get the garnishment process started. I give him my cell number.

I feel stuck between a rock and a hard place. I know they broke some fair credit laws in lying about the company they work for, and the harassment at work, as well as the personal abuse they levied, but I do not know about garnishment procedures and if it really is that easy for them to do that.
