I received a letter regarding a Spiegal card that I had back in 1994. This is when I was in the military. After being discharged I paid all my debts in full. This letter states that I owe an excess of $2700.00. After investigating this I found on a credit report from nine years later that the account number on the letter did not match the credit report.
Also it was found that my maximum credit limit on the credit report was $400.00. I spoke with a representative and he stated that sometimes the account numbers get switched around. This seemed odd to me. The representative was very quick to say that I could settle this account with a one time payment, and he repeated this three to four times in just a five minute conversation.
After thinking about it some more I decided to investigate it a little further. If any one is interested they should look up all the hits on Google.com about this company. There is some great info on how to deal with this.
