Everyone knows that pay day loans are a rip off, but their collection tactics are stomach churning and burning. Threatening calls, for example, "your checking account is closed and we have a problem. Criminal charges will be made". After withdrawing funds from a 401k to pay it (that turned out not to be enough) was not acceptable. I contacted them each time they called to report that funds were being sent only to be yelled at and threatened. I understand their job is to collect a debt, but everyone is not dishonest. Pay day loans are a dead end and no one should apply. Wait, borrow, let the phone and cable get shut off. Don't get me wrong... They're good when you're in a bind, but the chances are, if you're not able to be approved for a personal loan, you're struggling anyway. It's ridiculous to take advantage of the struggling and not offer them a way out. Take $50 if you can't get the entire $500. These companies want you to apply again instead of paying it off.
When I called again to say the check received was not for the amount I asked for, the person said, "fine, we'll turn it over to our attorneys." Than I receive a call from the store saying that "corporate" said I would be there to pay. I actually called "corporate" to tell them my situation.
The kicker is, it is a check cashing place and they would still charge me a crazy amount to cash it to pay them back.
What's up with that? I'm scared and need to pay my rent. So which one do I pay?
