Palisades has acquired fraudulent debt from AT&T Wireless (which has essentially disappeared after merging into Cingular. It is harassing honest consumers by pursuing this alleged debt without doing minimal due diligence - and is exacerbating the damage by filing reports based on the false AT&T information with credit companies.
AT&T sought to rip me off (and I assume others) when the new federal portability laws allowed consumers to switch wireless carriers, but maintain phone numbers. When I left AT&T (abysmal service) to go to Verizon (very good service) they attempted to continue charging my and my wife's account. After months of difficult and time consuming conversations, AT&T admitted thier mistake.
Now, AT&T/Cingular has apparently picked up extra post-merger income by selling fraudulent claims (at least in my case) to Palisades.in calling Palisades I was given a run around until a third call in which I reached a reasonable individual, able to discuss the situation. I will see in the coming weeks if this is an honest effort to redress a wrong - or more evasion.
If my suspicions are right, that there are many (thousands) of former AT&T customers in similar situations for execrising their "portability rights, " my sense is this merits a class action respone.
