In 1996 we had owned our home 2 years. I took a serious fall and ended up being disabled. We went to HUD for help, fine, they sold our mortgage to Ocwen Federal Bank.
Well nightmare after nightmare. They constantly threatened foreclosures, they constantly called. They even called my husband at work and told him he was bottom of the barrel.
After much harrassment and other crap we refinanced away from Ocwen. During the refinance we did become behind on payments, they threatened forclosure (no surprise) and our broker took care of it, or so we thought.
We did indeed have a foreclosure date, but was assured that it would not happen due to having a closing date on the refinance.
Things were moving along as planned, the day the forclosure auction was suppose to happen came, we got a phone call from a shark in our area saying the lawyer was on his way to our house for the auction and would be willing to sell to him. Imagine our surpise.
I immediately called the broker and was told no way, we had talked to Ocwen and they delayed this due to the refinace going through. Well the auction took place, our house was sold and we were losing our minds. We ended up by claiming bankruptcy to keep the deed from being transferred. Our broker talked to Ocwen's "big" lawyer and was told so sorry this happened, shouldn't have. Something was very shady here but no lawyer we talked to would touch it.
We ended up by staying in our home, the refinance went through, but how much money did we lose because of Ocwen, more than I care to think about. The refinance went through and we were done with Ocwen, but because of my disability, the extra expenses, and more, we were forced to sell our home this past year.
When all is said and done at the end of the day, we know it was Ocwen who put us in the position we sat for so many years, and ultimately caused us to have to sell our home. They got some big money out of us and no one seems to be willing to go against them. How can they do business this way for so long? What is wrong with our legal system?
I feel for anyone who has had to deal with Ocwen, they are the lowest type of shark I have ever had to deal with.
