Complaint / Review
AT&T Wireless, Palisades Collection
Ripoff violated my right to privacy

My sister-in-law received a collection letter in the Mail for me??? I stop by her house on the way home and it was a letter from Palisades Collection LLC. The letter states that I owe AT&T Wireless $729.42 for a Cell phone that I haven't had for 3 Years.

Histororical information:

I moved in 2002 and a few days after closing I received my AT&T wireless bill. (My mail was forwarded by the post office for a year) I sent my $50.00 payment and it cleared the bank. My service was then turned off when I received a cell phone from work. I never received another bill or communication from AT&T wireless or any other collection agency? If I owed this money, why would I not receive anything for all this time? If it is proven that I owe the money then I will pay it but...

Today 04/12/05

I tried to call Palisades for 2 hours but their phone system kept hanging up on me. I think their phone system will disconnect you if they cannot determine you phone number via caller ID. So I looked up AT&T Wireless/Cingular and found their phone number. I called them and gave them my information and they looked up the account. The rep I spoke with Tim, told me that the account was "written off" 4 days after they received my payment and it seemed strange. He also said that my account was not even accessed from 04 until 02??? He also said the account was showing a debt of $729.42 but they have sold the account to Palisades Collection. I asked him if this can be corrected, because I do not remember owing money on the account but 3 years have passed since I knew anything of this account. I asked him why my account was written off 4 days after I made a payment and he has no additional information on the account. All records have been sent to Pailsades.

I finally get someone from Palisades after speaking to AT&T (strange how that worked) and I explain the situation, and the Indian or Pakistan woman that I spoke with asked me if I deny owing the money and I told her that I question it. I asked them to send me copies of all information they have pertaining to this debt. The rep told me it will be sent in 30 days... I said if it takes thirty days to send this out, this better not appear on my credit report (I saw all the posts here about Palisades) until I have time to review their information and she told me that it will be reported. I told them I will speak with a lawyer and bring suit against them and AT&T wireless if it appears on my credit report. She advised that she will notify her manager and gave me her extension.

AT&T wireless would not tell me why my account was written off ofter receiving payment. I also asked them to send my a letter stating that but the rep stated he could not. I wonder how many other's have a similar problem. If I did owe them money, why wouldn't they send me a bill or a letter over the past three years???

Palisades would not tell me why this was sent to my Brother's house when AT&T wireless provided them with the correct address, (I've since moved but mail is again forwarded by the USPS). They have NO F&ing business sending this type of letter to my Brother's home. This has got to be an invasion of Privacy or an abuse of rights. They could have sent the information to my previous address. If they did it would have gotten to me.

Could it be that these two companies are working together to get money form people?
